When downtime is not an option

Healthcare facilities depend on systems that need to be available at all times. Internet connectivity and access to resident data are part of daily care operations.

But many facilities still operate without a clearly defined disaster recovery strategy. Everything may work well on a normal day, but a single ISP outage or power interruption can quickly expose how vulnerable the environment really is.

That was the risk in this case.

The facility’s IT environment was functioning, but it relied too heavily on single points of failure. Internet connectivity relied on a single provider and access to critical resident data could become difficult during a disruption.

For a healthcare facility, that kind of risk matters. Downtime can affect care teams’ ability to access the information they need when they need it most.

Building resilience into the environment

Creative Tech focused on strengthening the facility’s ability to continue operating during unexpected disruptions.

To improve connectivity, the facility was configured with two separate ISP providers. Fiber was set up as the primary connection, while coax was added as a backup failover connection. If the primary ISP experienced an outage, the facility could continue operating through the secondary connection, helping teams stay connected to the systems they rely on throughout the day.

Power continuity was addressed across the network infrastructure. Each network closet was equipped with an appropriately sized UPS battery backup to help keep networking equipment online during power interruptions. The UPS systems were also connected to the facility’s backup generator, supporting continued network availability during extended outages.

Creative Tech also configured, deployed, and monitors an eMAR backup solution. This helps ensure the facility maintains access to critical resident data needed for patient care, even if primary systems become unavailable.

Prepared before the outage happens

The result was an environment with stronger continuity built into its foundation.

Internet connectivity now has a failover path. Network equipment can remain online through power disruptions. Critical resident data stays accessible when primary systems are impacted.

For end users, the experience is simple: systems stay available, teams stay connected, and daily operations can continue with fewer interruptions.

Behind the scenes, however, the environment is much better prepared.

That is the value of disaster recovery planning. It is about putting the right systems, equipment, and monitoring in place before problems occur. For healthcare facilities, that preparation can make a real difference.

Creative Tech helps facilities build IT environments that are ready for real-world disruptions, from ISP outages to power events, so critical systems remain available when they matter most.
